Fast + Fresh Dance is coming...
Fast + Fresh Dance provides the opportunity for Australia’s young choreographers and dancers to not only display their talents, but also inspires and educates young performers to strive for their own artistic excellence and encourages active participation in dance at all levels.

As the newest member of the Short + Sweet dynasty of festivals, Fast + Fresh Dance is aimed at showcasing th talents of dance artists aged 16 to 21. Debuting at the Riverside Theatres, Parramatta, in November, the festival will showcase over 20 new and innovative dance works as well as the talents of over 50 young dancers.

Each performance, up to five minutes in length, will go through one of two rounds of Heats on Tuesday 25th and Wednesday 26 November at 7:30pm. The top five performances from each Heats, along with the overall winner of the Audience Choice Award from the Heats will go through to the Final on Saturday 29 November at 7:30pm.

Tickets are now on sale for all performances. So, come along and support some of Sydney's young emerging dancers and choreographers and don't forget to vote for your favourite!

ConnectEd Arts Dance Program 2008
In 2008, Western Sydney Dance Action is facilitating a series of professional development workshops in dance for primary school teachers in the Blue Mountain and Parramatta/Granville areas. This initiative is proudly supported by ArtsNSW through its ConnectEd Arts funding program which aims to enhance the value of arts in schools and scholl communities.

The program consists of a series of four complimentary dance workshops for primary school teachers aimed to build build and develop movement based skills focusing on components of dance in the NSW K-6 syllabus. The workshops, lead by dance industry professionals, will include practical composition tasts as well as provide the participants with the opportunity teacher to view and discuss dance works created by professional choreographers.

Some of the outcomes of the program include:

  • increasing dance and movement skills of primary school teachers
  • providing opporunities to create support networks amongst primary school teachers
  • participants to apply an understanding of creative processes to lead dance acitivies in the classroom.
  • providing emerging and established dance artist with skills and expereince in dance education, so as to improve the quality of their participation in the dance education sector

The ConnectEd Arts Dance Program will be held at two levels of difficulty:

  • Level One - offered to school teacher in the Parramatta/Granville region will provide the teachers with an introductory look into the program and incorporating dance into the classroom.
    When: Tuesdays and Thursdays for the period 21 - 30 October 2008
    Time: 3:30pm - 5pm

  • Level Two - offered to school teachers in the Penrith/Blue Mountains region will provide teacher with a more exptensive developed look into the program and incorporating dance into the classroom, following the success of Level One course in this region in 2006.
    When: Mondays and Wednesdays for the period 20 - 29 October 2008
    Time: 3:30pm - 5pm
